1. "CANOECOPIA" - will be held at the Alliant Energy Center Exhibition Hall in Madison on Friday March 13 from 4 pm to 6 pm, on Saturday March 14 from 9 am to 6 pm and Sunday March 15 from 10 am to 5 pm.

The Expo is billed as the world's largest canoe and kayak event.

Friends Board Members will on hand in a booth in one of the hallways. They
will have Friends caps for sale, and a supply of our new "fresh off the press" brochure to share.

 

2. For Friends in the Twin Cities area.

If you know of an event where the Friends should be sharing our our efforts for the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, and can be active in a booth, drop me a note at marlew2.charter.net

One event coming soon in the Twin Cities is the Outdoor Adventure Expo, April 24-26, hosted by Midwest Mountaineering.

At the present time we have no Board Members in the Twin Cities, but are very interested in sharing what we do to people who really care about the Apostle Islands.

3. Governor Jim Doyle has announced that the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is the state’s nomination for the United States Mint’s new quarter coin program honoring national parks.

The America’s Beautiful National Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 requires the U.S. Mint to issue quarters featuring national sites in each of the 50 states. Coins will be minted at a rate of five per year and issued based on the date in which the sites were first established as a national site.

The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is very young compared to other National Parks, so it will be some time before we get "our" quarter!
