The Friends May News was sent only to Members for whom we had a valid email address. We usually send a post card to Members for whom we do not a valid email address, however because we planned to snail mail this issue, did not do so in May. Thanks! Included in this mailing to all Friends Members is a copy of the 2008 season "Around the Archipelago, The Official newspaper of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore." Thousands of copies are made available to visitors to the National Lakeshore from all over the world to increase their enjoyment, understanding and appreciation of this beautiful place. This is the 5th year that Friends funded the newspaper. Also included is a one page Friends of the Apostle Islands membership enrollment form just in case you have not made a tax deductible contribution yet this year. Another enclosure is information about the Friends first Legacy Project, a wonderful little cottage named Plenty Charm located on Historic Sand Island. |

At the same time the Friends Board was
deliberating on a choice of our first Legacy Project we learned that one
of our members, Bob Mackreth, was about to have an article published in
Lake Superior Magazine. The article "Gert's Getaway" appears in the
June - July
issue.
It is a story about Sand Island, a woman named
Gert & her friends, and a place called Plenty Charm.

Annual Friends Meeting The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore will be held the evening of Sunday, August 3 at Big Top Chautauqua. The BTC show that night is Wild Woods & Waters. All Friends Members are invited for the short business meeting and a social/get acquainted/with good things to eat gathering that will begin at 6:00 in the T Bar. To obtain Group Rate Reserved Seating for the 7;30 show, call the BTC Office at 888-244-8368 and tell them you are a Member of the Friends. Please make your reservations before July 28.
